Where Community Comes First: Inside the Pickleball Community Cup

Community sport isn't the lead-up to elite sport. It's the whole point.

From 31 July to 2 August 2026, Gawler, South Australia, will become the first stop of the Pickleball  Community Cup — a brand-new national event series from Pickleball Aus and the National Pickleball League that hands the pro-level experience back to the people who actually make this sport what it is: everyday players.

There's a shift happening in how sport is played, in Australia and worldwide, and the Community Cup is right at the centre of it, changing the way amateur players interact with the game. The biggest investment isn't reserved for pro-players anymore. The sports that continue to grow are those that remove barriers, welcome newcomers and create genuine communities. Pickleball players have known this for a while. At its core, pickleball is a sport for everyone- and the most important players have always been the community that surrounds the game. Community-led sport has always been central to this story. This is what sport was always meant to feel like. Built around clubs. Built around people.

The Community Cup takes that spirit and finally gives it the stage it deserves- real venues, real structure and real emotion. This new national initiative from Pickleball Aus and NPL is the first stop in what will become a travelling series across the country. Gawler is where the reshaping of community sport begins.

Be part of the change, from the start. The focus here is on the competition — and equally, on bringing people together. Every event is built around the clubs and the people that make Australian pickleball what it is.

You'll play at premium venues, in an event delivered by two of the country's leading racquet sport organisations, powered by LADER tournament software. The difference is, there's no barrier to entry.

The Weekend- 

The weekend kicks off at 5 pm on Friday, and play begins at 9 am on Saturday and Sunday- a start time designed to allow for easy travel from Adelaide and surrounding areas. 

Friday- Music, food, drink, live sport, and the "First-to-5-Point Knockout." Players, clubs, friends and family, all in one place, before the real competition starts. Club colours encouraged. Prizes for the winner. This is the night to bring your whole crew. 

Saturday- Gender Doubles Male doubles and female doubles. Round robin into single elimination. The competitive temperature starts to rise.

Sunday- Mixed Doubles The weekend's finale. Same intensity, one last shot at the podium.

Open to anyone rated under 4.5 DUPR, split across three divisions so you're always matched fairly:

• Beginner — under 3.0

• Intermediate — under 3.5

• Intermediate Plus — under 4.5

Masters Division (50+) is offered across Intermediate (3.5 and under) and Intermediate Plus (4.5 and under). The Masters division is a reminder that pickleball doesn’t belong to one age group — it belongs to everyone who shows up.
